Hi Jacqueline tell us a bit about yourself & GYROKINESIS©
I moved from London to Kent last summer and now live near Hildenborough with my husband and 2 children. I knew when we were planning our move that there were no GYROKINESIS© exercise classes in Kent so if I wanted to continue, I would have to qualify and teach it myself! I worked as a professional performer, singer, choreographer, RAD ballet teacher and dancer but was finally forced to retire due to ongoing injuries. I suffered debilitating back pain and hip problems which were exacerbated by my pregnancies. I tried many different types of exercise over the years but found that only GYROKINESIS© was gentle enough and yet had the range of movement that challenged me with a fun, full body workout. I really enjoy practising and teaching GYROKINESIS© and I particularly like working with pregnant women so I can help them ease their transition to motherhood without the aches and pains I suffered!
GYROKINESIS® is practiced during floor classes using a mat and a stool. It incorporates many key principles taken from yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming and tai chi, though it is not based on these or other specific exercise models. You never hold a position for long but work at creating a fluid connection between the postures creating a dance that is invigorating and toning.
The effect of Gyrokinesis is an increased range of motion and coordination. All of the movements take your joints through their full range of motion and increase strength and flexibility while providing a cardio workout similar to a brisk walk.
The Tonbridge & Hildenborough Mums website is aimed at families in and around Tonbridge & Hildenborough. How do you think GYROKINESIS© would appeal to them?
GYROKINESIS© is for everyone. The carefully crafted movements are suitable for beginners, children and baby boomers or for professional athletes, dancers, mums and dads! It is really beneficial during (and after) pregnancy – the large, circular movements can be moulded around the ever changing body and growing baby.
Tell us a bit about what you and GYROKINESIS© bring to the local community
I am pleased and inspired to be part of a very active and fit local community who strive to keep themselves strong and healthy. I hope to bring something new and exciting to my community. Most people have never heard of GYROKINESIS© but early interest and feedback has been very encouraging so come along and give it a try!
