Brunch/Afternoon Tea at Café 1809
We live very close by Dame Kelly’s café so eat here often. This Mother’s Day they have a special menu for brunch, lunch and afternoon tea – see their twitter feed for the info: https://twitter.com/cafe1809. There will also be live music too. Sounds lovely.
I fear that if you’ve not booked anything yet, you may be out of luck, but there are some fabulous pubs locally with really great food – perhaps book in for an early Mother’s Day and go Saturday instead?! Personally, I’d recommend The Chaser Inn, The Kentish Hare in Bidborough and The Little Brown Jug in Chiddingstone/Penshurst, but I’m sure you have your own favourite haunts too…
Afternoon Tea at Hever Castle
Just realised that I’ve solely focused on food here… but oh well. Hever Castle have some lovely activities on for families this weekend, mainly based around food, take a look at their site. With biscuit decorating and a flower pot workshop going on, you might receive a few bonus gifts...
National Trust visit
Never one to let mums down, numerous local National Trust venues are hosting Mother’s Day lunches. Take a look at Ightham Mote & Chartwell, two gorgeous venues a short drive away. All details on their website (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk). It recommends booking in advance.
If you are not as preoccupied with food as me, then perhaps a nice day at a spa would be more your thing. I know, I know, children aren’t allowed in most spas, but don’t let this put you off…
Rowhill Grange has a lovely looking spa (I haven’t been there, so cannot personally recommend, but their site makes it look worth investigating), or there is a Champneys day spa in Tunbridge Wells but check opening times… Also look at Ashdown Park which advertises Mother and Daughter Spa Days, and Brandshatch Place too. I’m sure there are loads more. Let us know of any you particularly recommend. Of course if you own a spa and would like us to try it and write about it, don't hesitate to contact, we might be keen...
Howletts & Port Lympne
Mothers go free at Howletts and Port Lympne this Sunday, so long as they are entering with another paying guest, fantastic! Howletts is so great, there is a plethora of animals to see, and some great play areas too so long as it’s not monsoon-like rain (at time of going to press the forecast for Canterbury this Sunday is 6 degrees and cloudy, so not bad, but naturally, this could change). I can't find any info about this free deal on their website, but I did phone them up to check it was true (and they confirmed)... there is something listed here about it all if you want a visual online confirmation before hopping in the car.
Hopefully this might give you, your spouses or children some ideas on how to spend the day. Either way, let us know what you got up to!
